Featured Interview With Author J S Day

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?

As a mum and a teacher I have encourage reading for all ages including 'read-aloud' for toddlers, especially my grandchildren. I was born and raised in New Zealand. Reading is a great avenue for recreational enjoyment especially on rainy days.
My mum was a librarian, and I am grateful for her encouragement to read. I first read about fairytales and ancient times. It was later high school I became interested in reading more widely like sports, the human body, then more deeply into history, financial capability, and business. These also became my teaching disciplines. Thanks to my mum I came to value books.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My background is from awe-inspiring teaching career (Social and Sport Sciences) and also love of reading to quench my thirst for knowledge. I write books to endow the readers' fulfilment and enjoyment for having read. I have a firm belief that people may be transformed by hearing previously untold stories and stories told differently.
My writing began in creating resources for my classes over the years. Often I found I needed to pull knowledge and data together to cover curriculums that did not have resources in the way I wanted to teach my subjects. This keep me busy for many years and now I am now fulfilling my desire to write my own books to share the many untold stories while still allowing the reader room to further delve deeper into what sparks interest for them. I also see the books as creating wider views of the world and what could be. I want readers to think about what they are reading and the significance for today's world.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite genres to read are related to my teaching passions; sports, history and business. When I taught, played and coached sports I was thirsty and competitive to know how to gain the edge and win! Searching for new ideas all the time, I was creative in putting trainings and game plans together for school teams through to provincial teams. In teaching Social Sciences I loved delving into world history doing my best to create excitement for their learning and presenting what they had learnt and how they then now see the world around them. In taking on an orcharding business with my husband I grew an interest in studying business and have been teaching this for some time now too. I love teaching this in practical ways so my students really get to understand the world of business and finance. They love the hands on approach of creating, developing and running their own small business while they study and learn. The passion they gain for the subject is just amazing.
